San Keller

Dr. Keller, Managing Research Scientist at AIR, is an expert in the development and validation of patient-reported outcomes and measures of patients’ experience of healthcare—for example, patients’ health and wellbeing, patient-reported health care quality, patient centered communications, shared decision-making, and care coordination.  

San is the principal investigator (PI) of the NIH-funded Patient Reported Outcome Measurement Information System Network Center, site PI for the NIH-funded Person-Centered Assessment Resource, and a senior scientist on a CMS-funded project to develop a surveys to assess enrollees’ experience with the health insurance Marketplaces. She also played a key role in developing a wide variety of measures of patients’ healthcare experience for AHRQ’s Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Systems and Providers, or CAHPS, programs, including measures to evaluate the quality of care delivered in cancer centers, clinician and group practices, commercial health plans, dental health plans, disenrollment in health plans, hospitals, hemodialysis centers, Medicare, Medicaid, nursing homes, pharmacies and across surgical specialties.

San has documented the results of her research in more than 40 journal articles, books and book chapters, and numerous technical reports and professional presentations, and she received her doctorate in industrial and organizational psychology from Pennsylvania State University.
